My Dog Tier Jade cosplay is finally done!

I’m really proud of this cosplay for three reasons: one, I had to go pattern-less for the top and the hood (I did have a pattern for the skirt).

Two, the tights took a lot longer to find than I thought.

And the third - and main - reason I’m proud of it is that due to my lack of a sewing machine, this entire cosplay is hand-stitched.

almost exactly a year ago, i posted my first homestuck cosplay picture (this) to the tumblr i’d just created. now a little over a year later with plenty more cosplays in between, i am sitting here with a followers count in the thousands, when i’d never really anticipated more than a hundred. the homestuck fandom has given me an absolutely phenomenal response to my cosplaying. i still wonder how it even happened- often i’m just awestruck by how many people seem to enjoy what i do. this past year has been one of the best yet for me when it comes to cosplay, and it’s all thanks to this fandom.

so, i’m doing a followers appreciation homestuck cosplay giveaway! basically, i will make you any god tier costume you want. this is for the garments themselves and does not include wig, horns, skin paint, or wings. but the god tier can be of any class- you can pick anything from heir to witch to sylph or even your own original design! i am okay with making anything. i promise i’m pretty good at this sewing thing by now and you’ll wind up with a costume that’ll be made well, fitted well, constructed from suitable materials, and which will be able to be worn again and again. this will not be a costume that falls apart on you at the con!

Let me tell you about Dana.

Dana is most likely the sweetest girl on the planet with enough kindness to spare. She’s gorgeous and smart, and has a great sense of humour. She’s open-minded, tolerant of anything and everything, and definitely one of my best friends. She’s really talented in both cosplay and art, and definitely cooking! If you haven’t tried her food, good GOD, you haven’t lived!

She and I met at NDK 2009, when I was cosplaying Kanda Yuu and she was cosplaying Lavi, both from D.Gray-Man. She and I began to talk via text on our phones, and we became quick friends. Why did we talk on our phones? Well, Dana happens to be deaf. Up until that point, I had never met a deaf person before, so I was unsure how to communicate. But she really quickly showed me the ropes, and we talked a TON!

Not long after, Dana began teaching me sign language. We started off with the alphabet, then basic words, and it wasn’t long before I began stringing sentences together. I learned more and more about Dana, and about deaf culture, and became almost fluent in sign language after about a year and a half. I’ve learned so much from Dana, and she’s like a wealth of knowledge; she knows so much about life and culture, cooking definitely, cosplaying, drawing/painting, and SO much more! She’s a blast to talk to, and even a bigger blast to hang out with! She’s helped me through many things before, especially when I needed a break from college work. She knows just how to cheer a person up, and make them smile, and she always has a good abundance of energy to give. She’s always had an ear open for me and others, and has been like a sister to me since the time we met. Hell, my parents practically adopted her the second they met her; she’s officially a part of my family, through and through. 

So here’s my appreciation post for her.

Dana, you are one of the most important people in my life, and have made one of the biggest impacts I’ve ever felt. You’ve taught me more than I could’ve learned from a textbook, and have opened my mind up to thinking more outside the box. You’ve selflessly given to me, whether it’s knowledge or physical gifts, and I can never ever thank you enough for what you do. We’ve cosplayed a lot together, and we’ve done the silliest things together and had a huge laugh afterward. You have one of the most adorable laughs I’ve ever heard, and you’re an amazing person all around. You’re a witty and exciting friend to be around, and I miss you so, so much. I know we haven’t talked and hung out recently, and that’s mainly my fault, but the second there’s spare time, I’m grabbing you and we’re going on a HUGE ADVENTURE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS. 

We’ve stuck it through a thick river of mud, and tread the clearest waters, and I know you’re someone I can’t see me going through life without. Your friendship means so much to me; you’re one of the most fun people I know, and I wouldn’t trade you for anybody. You’re the Lavi to my Allen, Terezi to my Karkat (even though I denied it at first!), the Brobot to my Jake, and one of the people I hold very dearly. I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t met you.

Okay, let me tell you about Momo.

I don’t even know where to fucking begin. I’ve known her for about six years now, and if she isn’t my absolute best bro, then I don’t know who the fuck even is. Everyone talks about that “red string of fate” thing. If that’s true, we are not held together by this dinky little string across thousands of miles. We are tied with a thick red rope that has bound us to a log of broship that is carrying us over a waterfall of feelings. See illustration here.

Momo and I are two sides of the same coin, and we’ve been through so much together, it blows my mind to try and think about it all. We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together, we’ve cosplayed together, we’ve gone through bad break-ups together, and we’ve done practically everything else you could think of together.

We met at an anime convention in Colorado when we were young teenagers; she was cosplaying Edward Elric and I was cosplaying Duo Maxwell. The friendship started out thus so: I called her short (some form of it), we “fought” and then she tried to give me a candy-cane as a peace offering, which I then chucked into one the planers of the atrium. Then hugged her and proceeded to try and find said candy-cane, and we hung out for the rest of the con. It’s turned into the tightest and most-enduring friendship, and it’s still going strong. 

So this is her appreciation post.

Momo, you have been the constant factor in my life, and I can’t see myself going through life without you somehow there. You’ve listened every time I described all my insecurities, you picked me up when I ended up falling down multiple times, you’ve selflessly given a lot of your time to teach me things I never would’ve found out on my own, and you’ve always been the one that I could tell anything to, no matter what it was. We’ve had so much in common that it seems really surreal half the time. You’re nothing short of amazing, no matter what it is that you do, art, cosplay, whatever it is! You’ve done so so much for me, and given me that kick in the ass when it was really needed, and your friendship means more to me than anything material on this planet.

Thank you for being in my life, and being there for me in a way no one else could’ve been. You’re the Ed to my Duo, the John to my Dave, the Bro to my Dirk, and the absolute best bro anyone could ever ask for.
